A rather new, but lifesaving vaccine is… the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine. This vaccine has been available since June 2006. “79 million Americans are infected with HPV, and approximately 14 million people will become newly infected each year”. This virus is associated with causing more than a handful of cancers, to name a few: cervical, vaginal, vulvar, penile and anal. To say HPV is destructive is clearly an understatement.
This is not a required vaccination, but a highly recommended one, for girls and boys at age 11 or 12. Although this vaccine series includes three-shots spaced out over a period of time, many argue even receiving one of these could be enough protection from many types of HPV infections.
According to the CDC, the adverse side effects include fainting, dizziness, nausea, headache, fever, hives, injection-site pain, redness, swelling… Oh my…. These do not even compare to what receiving the shot series can save a person from!
